 Jack,
On February 22, 2009, you stepped up to the plate not as the batter, catcher or ump, but as at the personal coach and pacer for me to attempt my first sub 4 hour marathon in Hyannis, MA.

Your weekly schedules of strategically planned runs, including some form of speed work, regular runs, medium run mid week, long run and recovery got me in the shape I needed to be in. Your projected time for me to finish based on fitness test levels at previous races was the goal I went for. You made sure I was following the proper diet both of nutrition and hydration prior to the race and during training. On race day you eased my nerves, and also pumped me up for the big execution.

During the run, your history lessons were entertaining as was my grunting responses that were insisted upon to conserve energy. You kept me on pace, blocked the wind when needed and pulled me back when I got too ahead of myself.. You were encouraging the whole way and your questions of how I was feeling were honestly answered.

You pushed me at the end and never let me think negatively of myself. You were encouraging and professional the whole 26.2 miles, reminding me that getting water in my mouth is much better than up my nose, even if it meant walking. You thanked volunteers and people were shocked to see us still smiling on the second loop.

With your guidance I crossed the finish (with as much sprint as I could give) in 3:52:40.

Your coaching and pacing helped me achieve my goal and I am forever grateful.

I look forward to working with you as my coach for many runs to come.

Rock On!

Colleen
